Paint Cost Calculator for Dubai and the UAE

This tool adds up what a painting job costs. It uses your prices, not ours, so the answer is real for your job and your shop.

You put in the area, the coats, the price of a tin, and what the labour costs per square metre. It gives you the paint cost, the labour cost and the total in AED.

We do not put prices in for you. Paint prices change by brand and by shop, and labour rates change by job. A made up number would give you a budget that is wrong before you start.

Why this tool asks you for the prices

Most cost calculators online put a price in for you. It looks helpful and it is usually wrong.

Paint prices in the UAE change a lot. Two tins the same size, from two brands, on the same shelf, can be very different. Trade shops and retail shops price differently again. A number we typed in six months ago would not match what you pay today.

Labour is the same. A plain repaint of one bedroom and a full villa with high ceilings and fine finishes are not the same rate per square metre.

So the tool asks for your numbers. Two minutes checking a real price gives you a budget you can trust, instead of one that falls apart the day you buy.

What to include in the cost

A painting job is not only paint. These are the parts people leave out and then get surprised by.

  • Primer

On new walls or repaired patches this is a separate product and a separate cost. Work it out on the primer calculator and add it.

  • Putty or filler

If the walls need smoothing, the putty and the sanding are often a bigger cost than the paint itself.

  • Tools and covers

Rollers, trays, brushes, tape, dust sheets and sandpaper. Small on their own, real when added up.

  • Moving and covering furniture

If somebody is doing that for you, it is time and it is charged. If you are doing it, it is a Saturday.

  • Making good afterwards

Cleaning splashes, touching up edges and refitting switch plates. It is the last ten per cent of every job.

How to compare two quotes properly

Two painting quotes for the same flat can be very far apart, and the cheaper one is not always cheaper.

The difference is almost never the paint. It is what has been taken out of the preparation. Washing the walls, filling the cracks, sanding, masking and priming all take time, and time is what a low quote removes.

So when you compare, ask each one the same three questions. How many coats. What preparation is included. Which brand and which product, in writing.

Then use this tool. Put the same area and the same coats in, with a real paint price, and you can see what the material actually costs. Whatever is left is labour and preparation. If one quote has almost no room for labour in it, something is being skipped.

Ways to spend less without a worse job

Some savings cost you nothing. Others cost you the finish. These are the safe ones.

  • Do the moving yourself

Empty the room, take the curtains down, take the switch plates off. That is real time saved and it costs you nothing.

  • Paint several rooms at once

Setting up and packing down happens once instead of four times, and a drum is cheaper per litre than gallons.

  • Keep the same colour family

A similar shade covers in two coats. A big colour change needs three, which is fifty per cent more paint and more time.

  • Do not cut the primer

This is the false saving. Skipping primer on a new or patched wall means an extra top coat, which costs more than the primer did.

Getting a real price

A calculator gives you a range to plan with. It cannot see your walls.

Two things change a quote that no tool can guess. The state of the walls, which decides how much filling and sanding there is. And access, which decides how long everything takes: a stairwell or a double height living room needs staging that a bedroom does not.

When you ask for a quote, say how many rooms, roughly what size, what colour is on there now, and what colour you want. That is enough for a sensible number over the phone, and a visit will confirm it.

Ask for the paint to be bought in your name and the tins left with you. Then the leftover paint and the colour codes are yours for touching up later.

Questions people ask

How much does painting cost in Dubai?

It depends on the size, the condition of the walls, the number of coats and the paint you choose. Put your own paint price and labour rate into the tool above and it gives you a real total for your job.

Why does this calculator not have prices already in it?

Because we do not want to give you a budget built on a made up number. Paint prices and labour rates change by brand, shop and job. Checking one real price takes two minutes and makes the answer true.

Is paint or labour the bigger cost?

Labour, on most normal repaints. The paint is often a quarter to a third of the total, and preparation time is the rest.

How do I know if a quote is too cheap?

Work out the material cost with this tool using a real paint price. Take that off the quote. If what is left barely covers the days of work involved, the preparation is being skipped.

Should I buy the paint myself?

You can either way. What matters is that the paint is bought in your name, that you see the brand and product, and that the leftover tins and receipts are handed to you at the end.

Does the cost include primer and putty?

Not unless you add them. Both are separate products with their own coverage. Work them out on the primer and putty calculators, then put the totals into the other costs box.
