Wallpaper Installation Dubai

People choose wallpaper to avoid painting and then discover it needs better preparation, not less. Wallpaper installation Dubai is mostly about the wall, because paper stretched flat reveals every flaw underneath it.

Overview

Hanging, replacing and removing wallpaper

Feature walls, full rooms and commercial spaces — in vinyl, non-woven, textile and specialist papers, on walls prepared for them.

What it covers

Wall preparation and sizing, hanging of vinyl, non-woven, textile and mural papers, pattern matching, seam treatment, and removal of existing wallpaper.

Why it matters

Paper shows the wall beneath it. Preparation that would be adequate for paint produces visible hollows and ridges under a flat sheet.

Residential

Feature walls, bedrooms, hallways and full rooms in apartments and villas, including murals and large-format panels.

Commercial

Offices, retail, hospitality and clinics, in commercial-grade papers with the durability and fire performance those spaces need.

Symptoms

When wallpaper needs attention

Three of these are the wall telling you something rather than the paper failing.

Book soon

Seams lifting or curling at the edges

Insufficient paste at the edge, a wall that was not sized, or the paper drying too fast. It is repairable early and gets worse if left, because the edge collects dust.

Urgent

Bubbles that were not there when it was hung

Air or moisture behind the paper. Small ones from hanging usually flatten as it dries; ones appearing later mean adhesion has failed or moisture is arriving.

Emergency

Dark spotting or a musty smell behind paper

Growth behind the sheet, usually on an external wall or one with no air movement. This is a wall problem and the paper has to come off to deal with it.

Book soon

Visible ridges or hollows through the paper

The wall beneath, not the paper. Paper stretched flat reveals every imperfection, and no amount of smoothing removes what is under it.

Book soon

A seam that is visible from across the room

Either overlapped rather than butted, or the pattern is out of match. Both are hanging faults and both are far cheaper to prevent than to correct.

Routine

Colour fading on one wall only

Sunlight. Dubai light is severe on printed papers, and a wall in direct sun will fade noticeably faster than the rest of the room.

Book soon

Paper you want removed before repainting

Removal is a job in itself and its difficulty depends entirely on what was under the paper when it was hung. Sized walls release; unprepared plaster does not.

Urgent

A handover where papered walls are on the inventory

Damaged or lifting paper is a deduction. Worth assessing early, because a matching roll from the original batch is rarely still available.

Why TRAXICO

Why choose TRAXICO for wallpaper installation Dubai

Almost everything that goes wrong with wallpaper was decided before the first drop went up.

The wall prepared for paper

Filled, sanded flat and checked under raking light. Preparation adequate for paint is not adequate for paper, because paper does not hide anything.

Sized and primed

A sized wall lets paper slide into position while hanging and release cleanly when it comes off years later. Hanging onto bare plaster makes removal a demolition job.

Seams butted, never overlapped

An overlapped seam is a visible ridge for the life of the paper. Butted seams take longer to get right and they are what a job is judged on.

Pattern and batch checked first

Every roll checked for batch number and shade before anything is cut, and the repeat calculated so the pattern runs correctly across the wall.

Honest about which walls suit paper

External walls and unventilated corners can develop growth behind paper in humid months. Better to say so before you choose the wall than afterwards.

Removal done properly

Steamed and scraped without gouging the substrate, then the wall made good so it can be papered or painted rather than left needing replastering.

Scope

What wallpaper installation Dubai includes

The wall takes longer than the hanging.

  1. 1

    Wall assessment

Existing surface checked for soundness, flatness under raking light, absorbency and any moisture. This determines how much preparation the wall actually needs.

  2. 2

    Removing existing paper

Where there is paper already, steamed or soaked and scraped off completely, with adhesive residue washed rather than papered over. Old paste under new paper causes staining and lifting.

  3. 3

    Filling and sanding

Every imperfection filled and sanded genuinely flat, to a higher standard than a paint finish requires. Under a stretched sheet, a proud filler patch reads as a ridge.

  4. 4

    Priming and sizing

A wallpaper primer or size applied to control absorbency and give the paste an even surface. This is what lets paper slide during hanging and release cleanly at removal.

  5. 5

    Batch and repeat check

All rolls checked for matching batch numbers and shade before cutting, and the pattern repeat measured so drops are cut with the match calculated in.

  6. 6

    Hanging

Paste applied by the method the paper requires — to the wall or to the paper with soaking time — and drops hung plumb from a struck line rather than from a corner.

  7. 7

    Seams and trimming

Seams butted and rolled, edges trimmed cleanly at ceiling, skirting and around fittings, and switch plates removed and refitted rather than cut around.

  8. 8

    Drying and check

Allowed to dry without forced air or draughts, then checked in daylight. Small bubbles that flatten on drying are normal; ones that remain are dealt with.

Not covered by this service

  • Supply of wallpaper unless specifically agreed
  • Replastering where removal reveals a failed substrate
  • Treatment of the cause where moisture is present

How It Works

How wallpaper installation Dubai works, step by step

Two decisions before hanging matter more than the hanging.

  1. 01

Tell us the wall and the paper

Which wall, and the paper if you have chosen one. Type, weight and pattern repeat all change both the method and the quantity, and a product code lets us check before you order.

  2. 02

    Site visit

The wall assessed for flatness, soundness and moisture. Whether it is an external wall matters here more than most people expect.

  3. 03

    Quantity calculated

Rolls calculated from the wall dimensions and the pattern repeat, with sensible allowance. A large repeat wastes considerably more paper than a plain one, and ordering short later is a batch problem.

  4. 04

    Preparation

Removal of any existing paper, filling, sanding, priming and sizing. On a wall that has not been papered before, this is most of the visit.

  5. 05

    Hanging

Plumb line struck, drops cut with the pattern matched, hung and seams butted and rolled. A feature wall is usually half a day once prepared.

  6. 06

    Trim and reinstate

Cut cleanly at all edges, fittings refitted, and the room left clean rather than the offcuts left for you.

  7. 07

    Check in daylight

Seams and pattern reviewed with you in natural light, which is where anything shows. Corrections made then rather than reported.

Benefits

What proper wallpaper installation Dubai gives you

The failures in this trade are all visible from across the room.

Seams you cannot find

Butted, rolled and hung on a properly prepared wall. A visible seam line is the single thing people notice about badly hung paper.

A flat surface

A wall prepared to paper standard reads as one plane. One prepared to paint standard reads as a collection of repairs under a sheet.

Removable later

A sized wall releases paper cleanly in years to come. Paper hung on unsized plaster takes the surface with it and turns removal into replastering.

Pattern that runs correctly

Repeat calculated and batch checked before cutting. A mismatch across a wall cannot be corrected afterwards without rehanging.

The right wall chosen

Knowing which walls suit paper in this climate prevents the problem that appears behind it a year later and is not repairable.

Material not wasted

Correct quantity calculated from the repeat. Ordering short means a second batch that will not match, and ordering long is money on a shelf.

Worth Knowing

What decides whether wallpaper installation Dubai is any good

Wallpaper is unforgiving in a way paint is not, and almost all of it comes down to the wall.

Wallpaper installation Dubai shows the wall; paint hides it

People frequently choose wallpaper because a wall is in poor condition, on the assumption that paper will cover it. It does the opposite.

Paint is a liquid that flows into small depressions and follows the surface. Minor unevenness, light sanding marks and small variations disappear under two coats of matt emulsion, which is why matt is recommended for imperfect walls.

Paper is a sheet stretched flat across the surface. It bridges hollows rather than filling them, so a depression reads as a shadow, and it sits on top of high points, so a proud filler patch reads as a visible ridge running across the wall. Under raking light from a window or a wall light, both are obvious.

It gets worse with certain papers. Thin, light-coloured and metallic finishes are the least forgiving, because they show shadow and telegraph texture readily. Heavy embossed vinyls are considerably more tolerant.

And colour beneath matters too. A patched wall with white filler on a dark existing paint colour will show through a light or thin paper as pale marks, which is why walls are primed to a uniform colour before papering rather than simply filled.

So the standard of preparation for paper is higher than for paint, not lower. Filling, sanding genuinely flat, checking under raking light, and priming to an even colour — all before a roll is opened. If somebody quotes to hang paper without seeing the wall, they are quoting for hanging and not for the job.

Sizing decides whether wallpaper installation Dubai comes off cleanly

Sizing is a preparatory coat applied to the wall before hanging, and it is skipped constantly because its benefits are invisible on the day.

It does two things. First, it controls absorbency. Bare or porous plaster draws water out of the paste rapidly and unevenly, so the adhesive grabs before the paper has been positioned and it dries too fast at the edges. That produces exactly the two symptoms people complain about: drops that cannot be slid into alignment during hanging, and seams that lift because the paste at the edge dried before it bonded.

Second, and more importantly for the future, it creates a barrier between the paste and the wall surface. When the paper eventually comes off — and it will, because tastes change — a sized wall releases the paper and the paste washes off, leaving a surface ready to be papered again or painted.

Paper hung on unsized, unsealed plaster is a different story. The paste bonds directly into the plaster surface, and removing the paper pulls the face of the plaster with it. What should be a day of steaming and scraping becomes a wall needing skimming or replastering.

The person who benefits from sizing is not the person paying for the hanging; it is whoever removes the paper years later. Which is precisely why it gets left out, and precisely why it is worth insisting on.

Batch numbers, repeats and buying the right quantity

Two ordering mistakes account for most wallpaper disasters, and both happen before anybody arrives to hang.

Batch number first. Wallpaper is printed in batches and there is a genuine shade variation between them — subtle in the roll and clearly visible when two drops from different batches sit side by side on a wall. Every roll for a single job must come from the same batch, and that number is printed on the label. It gets checked before cutting, not after hanging.

The consequence of getting it wrong is severe, because if you run short and the original batch has sold out, you cannot simply buy another roll. You either live with a visible shade change or rehang the wall.

Which leads to quantity. Papers with a pattern repeat waste material, because each drop must be cut so the pattern aligns with the one beside it — and a large repeat can mean a significant offcut from every drop. A plain or random-match paper wastes very little; a large offset repeat can waste a great deal.

So quantity is calculated from wall dimensions, drop length and the repeat together, with a sensible allowance on top. Ordering exactly enough is the mistake — an error in cutting, a damaged roll, or a wall that is not quite square all consume the margin, and the correction is a batch problem rather than a roll problem.

The related advice: keep the leftover roll, labelled, with the batch number. Damage happens, and a matching offcut is worth more than the roll cost.

Seams in wallpaper installation Dubai are butted, never overlapped

The single most visible marker of hanging quality is the seam, and there is a correct way and a shortcut.

A butted seam means two drops meet edge to edge with no gap and no overlap, so the join is nearly invisible. Achieving that requires the wall to be prepared flat, the drops to be hung genuinely plumb, and the paper to be positioned precisely while the paste still allows movement — which is where sizing earns its cost.

An overlapped seam means one drop laid over the edge of the next. It is far easier and faster, it guarantees no gap, and it creates a ridge running floor to ceiling that catches light and shadow permanently. On a plain paper it is visible; on a patterned one it also breaks the pattern.

Seams are then rolled — lightly, with a seam roller, once the paste has begun to grab — to bed the edges without squeezing adhesive out or flattening the paper texture. Rolling too hard on an embossed paper crushes the emboss along the seam line, which is its own visible defect.

Where seams do lift later, it is nearly always insufficient paste at the edge, a wall that was not sized, or drying that was too fast — a draught, air conditioning blowing directly on the wall, or hanging in the heat of the day with the cooling off. Controlling conditions during drying is part of the job rather than an afterthought.

Which walls wallpaper installation Dubai should refuse

This is the local consideration and it is worth knowing before choosing where the feature wall goes.

Wallpaper is a sheet with adhesive behind it, sitting against the wall with limited air movement. Where the wall stays dry, that is fine indefinitely. Where moisture reaches it, the space behind paper is warm, dark and enclosed — and through the humid months that is a hospitable environment for growth.

The walls at risk are identifiable. External walls, particularly on elevations that take direct sun and then cool, where condensation can form within the wall build-up. Walls behind large fixed furniture where no air moves at all. Walls adjacent to bathrooms or kitchens where humidity is higher. And any wall with a history of damp, however minor.

The symptom is dark spotting appearing through the paper, or a musty smell in the room with no obvious source. By the time either is visible, the growth behind is more extensive than what shows, and the paper has to come off for the wall to be dealt with.

None of this makes wallpaper unsuitable for Dubai — it is used successfully everywhere. It means the choice of wall matters. Internal partition walls with reasonable air movement are the safe candidates. An external wall behind a wardrobe is the one to avoid.

Where a wall has any history of moisture, the honest advice is to establish why and resolve it before papering, because paper is the finish least tolerant of a damp substrate.

Paste the wall, paste the paper, and why it matters

Different papers require different methods and using the wrong one produces predictable failures.

Traditional papers are pasted on the back and then folded and left to soak for a specified time. That soaking allows the paper to expand before it goes on the wall. Hang it too soon and it expands in place, producing bubbles and seams that open as it dries; leave every drop for a different length of time and each expands differently, so the pattern will not match across the wall. Consistent soaking time on every drop is the discipline.

Non-woven papers are dimensionally stable and are designed to be hung by pasting the wall rather than the paper. It is faster, cleaner, needs no pasting table, and the paper does not expand — so the pattern stays true. It is also considerably easier to remove later, generally peeling dry in whole strips. For most residential work it is the better choice and it is worth knowing to look for when selecting a product.

Vinyl papers vary and their instructions matter, particularly on seam treatment, since some vinyls need a specific overlap-and-double-cut method rather than a simple butt.

Textile, grasscloth and specialist papers have their own requirements and are the least forgiving of all — paste on the face marks them permanently, they cannot be cleaned, and the natural material means visible shading between drops is expected rather than a defect.

The practical point when choosing: tell whoever is hanging it what the paper is before you buy. Some products are genuinely difficult and the difference in labour is real.

Stripping old paper before wallpaper installation Dubai begins

Removal is a proper job rather than a preliminary, and how difficult it is was determined by whoever hung the paper.

On a wall that was sized and primed, removal is straightforward: score the surface if the paper is water-resistant, steam or soak it, and it releases in sheets with the paste washing off behind. A day's work for a room and the wall is left ready.

On a wall hung directly onto unsealed plaster, the paste has bonded into the surface and the paper takes the plaster face with it. What comes off is patchy, the wall is left gouged and inconsistent, and it needs filling extensively or skimming before anything can go back on it.

The mistake to avoid is force. Aggressive scraping to save steaming time gouges the substrate, and every gouge is a repair that has to be filled and sanded before the wall can be papered or painted. Patience with steam costs less time overall than the making good it prevents.

And paper should never be painted over as an alternative to removing it. Emulsion applied to wallpaper soaks the paper, softens the paste and causes it to lift and bubble, and the result is worse than either the paper or a painted wall. Where paper is genuinely well adhered and being painted as a deliberate finish it can work, but it is a decision rather than a shortcut, and it makes removal later considerably harder.

On a property being repainted throughout, removal is worth doing properly at that stage — interior painting Dubai covers what the wall then needs before it can take a paint finish.

What moves the price

Condition of the wall
The largest variable. A flat, sound, previously papered wall is straightforward. One needing extensive filling and sanding to paper standard is most of the job.
Paper type
Non-woven paste-the-wall products are quicker and more forgiving. Traditional papers need soaking discipline, and textile and grasscloth are the slowest and least forgiving of all.
Pattern repeat
A plain or random match is fast. A large offset repeat means more cutting, more waste and more time per drop, and it changes the quantity you need to order.
Removal of existing paper
Quoted separately, because how difficult it is depends entirely on whether the wall was sized when the old paper went on — and that is not knowable until it starts coming off.
Openings and obstructions
Windows, doors, sockets and switches all add cutting time. A plain wall and a wall with three openings are very different amounts of work for the same area.

No surprises on the invoice

Send us the product code before you order. Type, weight and pattern repeat change both the method and the quantity you need, and ordering short means a second batch that will not match the first — which is a rehang rather than a top-up.
