Sometimes the honest fix is repositioning the indoor unit so the condensate can actually run downhill, rather than fighting a drain that was always going to struggle.
A condenser rejecting heat into air that is already baking works far harder than it needs to. Moving or shading it is a genuine efficiency improvement in this city.
Building permits, access approvals and lift bookings all take time. Two weeks is workable; two days usually is not, and it is the paperwork rather than the work that decides.

A move is judged entirely by how the system behaves months later, which is exactly when nobody can see what was done.
The charge is pumped into the outdoor unit before anything is disconnected. Venting it is faster, illegal and environmentally serious, and it is the difference between a proper move and a cheap one.
Flare joints are formed for one connection. Cut, deburred and formed fresh at the new position, torqued to figure and pressure tested rather than tightened until they feel right.
The circuit is evacuated to a deep vacuum and held to prove it is tight before refrigerant goes back in. Moisture left inside makes acid that corrodes the compressor over years.
The condensate route is planned at survey rather than improvised on the day. A drain without continuous fall is the most common thing a rushed relocation leaves behind.

Both positions assessed — wall construction, pipe route and length, drain fall, electrical supply and outdoor unit mounting. Pipe length affects charge, so it is measured rather than guessed.
The refrigerant is drawn into the outdoor unit and the service valves closed, so the charge is contained rather than released. Fifteen minutes, and the single most important step in the job.
Electrical isolation, pipework disconnected, drain removed, both units taken off their brackets and packed so nothing is damaged in transit.
Brackets removed, core holes sleeved and sealed, cabling made safe or removed, and the surface left ready for decoration.
Fresh copper cut and formed to the new route, insulated along its length, with the condensate line set to a continuous fall. New core drilling where the route requires it.
Indoor bracket set level, outdoor unit on a stable base or wall brackets clear of the ground, new flares formed and torqued, and electrical connections remade and tested.
Joints proved with nitrogen where the run is long or the job warrants it, then the circuit evacuated to a deep vacuum and held to confirm it is tight.
Refrigerant released back in with any addition for the new pipe length, then superheat, subcooling, current draw and temperature split checked and recorded.

Worth Knowing
Everything that matters in a move happens in the few hours the circuit is open, and none of it can be inspected afterwards. This is what to ask about.
Before a split system can be disconnected, the refrigerant has to go somewhere. Done properly, the outdoor unit is run with the liquid valve closed so the compressor draws the charge into the condenser, and both service valves are then shut. The refrigerant is now stored in the machine, ready to be released again at the new position. It takes about fifteen minutes.
The shortcut is to put a spanner on the flare nuts and let the charge blow out into the air. It takes seconds, it costs nothing, and from the customer's side of the room the two methods look identical — the unit comes off the wall either way.
Refrigerants are potent greenhouse gases and venting them is prohibited. Beyond that, it means the system now needs a full charge of new gas at the other end, which is either added to your bill or, more often, replaced with an approximate amount charged by gauge until the pressures look plausible.
So it is a fair question to ask before booking: will the system be pumped down. Anyone doing this properly will answer immediately, because it is the first thing on the job.
A flare joint is made by cutting the copper square, deburring it, and forming the end into a cone with a flaring tool so it seals against a matching face when the nut is tightened. That cone is work-hardened by being formed, and it takes an impression from the surface it was tightened against.
Reconnecting an old flare to a new fitting, or re-tightening one that has been apart, means asking a hardened and already-impressed surface to seal against a different one. Sometimes it holds. Often it weeps slowly, and the cooling fades over the following months while everyone assumes moving the unit somehow aged it.
A relocation should always end with fresh copper cut and new flares formed at the new position, torqued to a figure rather than tightened by feel — over-tightening splits the cone, under-tightening leaves it loose, and both leak. This is also why the price of a move depends on the pipe run: the copper is new.
Once the pipework is connected, the circuit contains air and, in Dubai humidity, water vapour. Both have to come out before refrigerant goes in, which is done with a vacuum pump drawing the system down to a deep vacuum and then holding it to prove the joints are tight.
Skipping it makes no difference on the day. The system cools, the customer is satisfied, and the technician leaves. The damage is chemical and slow: moisture reacts with the compressor oil to form acids that corrode the compressor from the inside over several years, and non-condensable air raises head pressure so the system runs less efficiently for the rest of its life.
It is the most skipped step in this trade because it takes time and produces no visible result. If a relocation quote is dramatically cheaper than the others, this and the pump down are usually the reason, and the cost reappears later as AC compressor repair Dubai on a unit that should have had years left.
Every split system is designed around a standard pipe run, and the charge on the data plate assumes it. Move the unit further away and the extra copper holds more refrigerant, so the system needs an addition — a specified number of grams per metre beyond the standard length.
Get this wrong in either direction and the system underperforms in ways that are hard to diagnose later. Too little and it starves; too much and head pressure rises and efficiency drops. Neither is obvious in the room, and both are permanent until somebody measures.
Height matters too. Manufacturers specify a maximum vertical separation between indoor and outdoor units, and beyond it oil struggles to return to the compressor. Long or tall runs may also need an oil trap. This is why the survey measures the route rather than estimating it, and why a move that looks like it should be simple sometimes is not.
An air conditioner leaves behind a core hole through an external wall, bracket fixings, a drain outlet and usually a cable route. Leaving those open is both an inspection failure and a practical problem — a core hole in a Dubai facade admits water in the rain, hot humid air permanently, and insects continuously.
Making good means the hole sleeved and sealed properly rather than filled with foam and painted, brackets removed and fixings made flush, and cabling either removed or safely terminated. It is a small part of the job and the part most often skipped on a move out, precisely because the person who paid for it is leaving.
If you are handing a property back, this is worth confirming is in the quote. It is far cheaper as part of the relocation than as a separate visit after a landlord has raised it.
The labour in a relocation is much the same whether the unit is two years old or twelve. Pump down, disconnect, new pipework, mount, vacuum, recharge, commission — the age of the equipment changes almost none of it.
That makes the arithmetic unusual. On a system near the end of its life, you are paying most of an installation cost to keep an old and less efficient machine, and it arrives at the new property already partway through its remaining years. On anything running phased-out R22, it is worse: any leak that develops afterwards is expensive to put right and the refrigerant is no longer produced.
Under about six years old, move it. Between six and ten, it depends on the unit's condition and how long you intend to stay. Past ten, AC installation Dubai is usually the better spend, and we will tell you so at the survey even though it means we are quoting for a different job than the one you called about.
Most relocations are delayed by paperwork rather than by work. Moving an outdoor unit on a facade, drilling a new core through an external wall, or working on a balcony or roof generally needs building management approval, and they will want a work permit, our trade licence, insurance certificates and often a method statement.
Towers commonly restrict working hours, require lift bookings for equipment, and need contractor passes arranged in advance. None of it is difficult and all of it takes time — days rather than hours, and longer around holidays.
This is why a move should be booked well before a handover date rather than in the final week. The survey identifies what will be needed and we submit it early, so the constraint becomes the building's response time rather than a discovery on the day the removal van is booked.
