Most people looking for a carpenter Dubai have a space rather than a specification — an alcove, a wall, a door that will not shut, a piece of furniture that never fitted. The useful first conversation is about what the room is doing, not about timber.
Overview
Storage that has to fit an awkward space, doors that have stopped behaving, a piece nobody sells in the size you need, and repairs to things worth keeping.
Anything scribed, levelled or adjusted to the property as it actually is — wardrobes, cabinet runs, doors, panelling. The room decides the dimensions.
Carcasses, fronts and one-off pieces produced in a workshop from measurements taken here, then delivered and installed rather than assembled in your living room.
Joints that have opened, hinges pulled out of board, swollen edges, lifted veneer, doors that drop or bind. Usually cheaper than replacing, sometimes not.

Symptoms
Some of these are jobs; some of them are symptoms of something that has to be understood before anything is cut.
An alcove, a sloping soffit, a run that stops short of a column. The gap either gets filled properly or it collects dust for the length of the tenancy.
Usually hinge screws that have lost their grip, occasionally a leaf that has taken up moisture and bowed. Planing it is the last resort, not the first.
Water has reached an unsealed cut edge of engineered board — under a sink, behind a plinth, at the back of a shelf. Board that swells does not go back down.
Hinges and runners are adjustable by design, and most misalignment is a five-minute correction. If adjusting does not hold it, the fixing has failed in the board.
Glue fails before timber does. A joint taken apart properly, cleaned and re-glued is stronger than one packed with adhesive while it is still assembled.
Surface damage rather than structural. Whether it can be reworked in place or has to be stripped back depends on what the original finish was.
Doors that bind, filler pieces missing, skirting gaps, drawers rubbing. Individually small, collectively the difference between finished and nearly finished.
Cooling switched off through the humid months lets timber and board take up moisture. Doors bind, panels bow, drawers tighten. It is a climate effect, not damage.
Why TRAXICO
Almost every complaint about carpentry is about fit rather than craft. That is where the attention goes.
Not from a drawing and not before the tiling. Walls move during construction and finishes have thickness, and joinery cut to a drawing arrives the wrong size.
Walls here rarely are. Scribing, packing and filler pieces are part of the job rather than an extra, and a unit that touches the wall along its whole height is the deliverable.
Hinges and runners are what you touch every day and what decides whether doors still line up in five years. We say what is being fitted rather than calling it quality.
Under sinks, behind plinths, at the back of wet-area units. An exposed cut edge of engineered board is the single most common avoidable failure here.
Gypsum, glass, flooring and stone are not carpentry. Naming that at the survey is more useful than discovering it when the units are already made.
Some pieces are cheaper to replace than to have made, and some repairs are not worth doing. We would rather say so than take the work and disappoint you.
Scope
Weighted toward the survey, because that is where the outcome is decided.
What goes in it, who uses it, how often, and what has to open at the same time. A wardrobe for hanging and a wardrobe for folded storage are different objects.
Plumb, level, square, and the actual clear dimensions at several heights. The variation between those readings is what the fillers and scribes have to absorb.
Services in the wall, the nature of the wall itself, the ceiling void, and whether the floor is flat. All of them constrain what can be fixed where.
What the carcass is, what the front is, what the exposed edges get, and where the piece will meet water or direct sun. Written down rather than assumed.
Hinges, runners, lifts, handles and, where relevant, sliding gear. Chosen against weight and frequency of use rather than against the price of the piece.
Workshop components where the finish matters, site work where the adjustment does. Most jobs are a combination, and the two are quoted together.
Fixed back into something that will hold, levelled across the run rather than at one point, then every door and drawer adjusted until the gaps are consistent.
Offcuts and dust removed, and everything opened and closed with you present. Adjustments made then are free; adjustments made in a month are a visit.

How It Works
The order matters more than most people expect, because the expensive mistakes all happen before anything is cut.
Photographs of the whole wall with something for scale, and rough dimensions. What you want it to do is more useful at this stage than what you want it to be.
Measurements at several points, services located, wall construction established, floor and ceiling checked for level. This is where surprises are supposed to happen.
Carcass, front, edges, hardware, finish and what is excluded. If a decision is being left open, it gets named as open rather than discovered later.
Components produced or procured against the survey. Nothing is cut from a drawing that predates the finished room, because that is how joinery arrives short.
Clearing, protecting floors and containing dust. In an occupied property this is a real part of the day rather than something done at the end.
Set out, fix, level, then cut the fillers and scribes to the wall as it actually runs. The scribing is the part that makes the difference between fitted and placed.
Every hinge and runner set until the gaps read consistently, the area cleaned, and anything you are not happy with dealt with while we are still there.

Benefits
Mostly it is the difference between something that fits and something that nearly fits.
Full height, wall to wall, into the awkward corner. The storage a property loses to standard-sized furniture is usually a substantial fraction of a room.
A joint re-glued, a hinge remounted into sound material, an edge repaired. Most furniture is thrown away for faults that are an hour of work.
Doors adjusted properly on the day stay adjusted. Most call-backs in this trade are hardware that was fitted and never set.
Blockwork, hollow block, gypsum and concrete all need different anchors. Weight on the wrong anchor is how a loaded unit ends up on the floor.
Board, edge treatment and named hardware make two quotations comparable. Without them, the cheaper number is usually the one leaving something out.
Where a job genuinely needs an electrician or a plumber, sequencing it properly is half the value. Carpentry that has to be cut into afterwards is wasted work.
Worth Knowing
None of this is trade secrecy. It is the handful of things that decide whether the result is right, and almost none of it appears on a quotation.
The word carpenter covers two jobs that share a material and very little else, and most confusion about price and lead time comes from not knowing which one is being bought.
Fitting work happens in your property. It is the trade of reading what is actually there and adjusting to it: a wardrobe scribed to a wall that leans, a cabinet run levelled across a floor that falls, a door hung in a frame that has moved since it was built. The tools are portable, the dust is yours, and the skill is judgement rather than precision — knowing that the wall is nineteen millimetres out over two metres and deciding where to lose it.
Workshop work happens somewhere else. Panels are cut on machines that hold a tolerance no site saw will, edges are banded under heat and pressure, doors are sprayed in a booth without a breath of dust, and the whole thing arrives finished. The quality ceiling is far higher. The risk is that everything depends on measurements taken before anything was made, because a panel cut wrong is remade rather than trimmed.
Nearly every real job is a mixture. The carcasses and fronts come from a workshop; the fillers, scribes, end panels, plinths and cornices are cut in the room against the wall as it runs. That is why the installer matters as much as the workshop, and why quoting them separately tends to produce an argument about whose fault the gap is.
The practical consequence for you is the lead time. A fitting job can often happen within days because nothing has to be made. A made job has a fixed sequence — survey, specification, production, delivery, installation — and compressing it usually means somebody measured early, which is the one economy that reliably costs more than it saves.
It also explains the site-made unit, which is what much of this market actually buys: carcasses built in the room from board cut on site. It is quick, it is cheap, it fits, and the finish and the edge quality are limited by the fact that it was made in a dusty apartment. That is a legitimate trade-off — it is only a problem when it is sold as workshop joinery.
If a piece of joinery is wrong, the cause is almost never the making. It is the measuring.
The first rule is that the room gets measured after it is finished, not before. Tiles have thickness. Skirting has thickness. Plaster is applied unevenly and rendered walls are worse. A drawing produced at design stage is a statement of intent, and the difference between it and the built room is routinely enough to swallow a filler panel.
The second rule is that a single dimension is useless. A recess is measured at the top, the middle and the bottom, and at the front and the back, because the four numbers are rarely the same. Whichever is smallest is the one the unit has to pass through and sit within, and the difference between the largest and the smallest is what the scribes have to absorb. A recess that is nineteen millimetres wider at the top than at the floor is completely normal here and completely fatal to a unit built to one number.
The third is that floors are not level and ceilings are not parallel to them. A run of base units set to the floor will have a worktop that visibly rises; a run set to a level line will have varying gaps at the plinth. Both are correct choices in different rooms, and choosing between them is a decision somebody has to make deliberately rather than discover.
The fourth is that walls are not plumb and corners are not ninety degrees. A tall unit built square and pushed into a corner that is not will touch at the top or the bottom and gap at the other end. The fix is either scribing the unit to the wall or accepting a shadow gap and making it look intentional, and the second one is legitimate when the wall is bad enough.
The fifth is access. A finished panel that fits the alcove perfectly and does not fit through the apartment door, round the lobby corner or into the service lift is a familiar and expensive way to learn this. Anything large made off site gets checked against the route in, not just against the destination.
And the sixth is that services live inside walls. Sockets, switch drops, water pipes, drainage and AC condensate lines all sit where somebody has to fix into, and finding them with a fixing rather than before is how a joinery job becomes a plumbing job. Where a wall turns out to be full of services, the answer is often to fix into the floor and ceiling instead, which is a decision better made at the survey.
What a piece is made from matters less than most quotations imply, and the edges matter far more than anyone mentions.
Broadly there are three families. Solid timber moves with moisture across its width and looks and repairs beautifully. Plywood is stable, strong, holds a screw well and has an edge that can be left visible or lipped. Engineered boards — MDF and chipboard — are flat, dimensionally predictable, cheap, and take a laminate or a sprayed finish well; they also have no grain to give them strength at a fixing, and they are vulnerable at any cut edge that is not sealed.
The reason edges matter here is the climate. A conditioned room is dry and cool; outside is extremely humid; and the property swings between the two whenever cooling stops. Engineered board with an unsealed cut edge under a sink, behind a plinth or at the back of a wet-area unit takes up water at that edge and swells. The swelling is permanent — the board does not return to size when it dries — and it usually shows as a door that no longer sits flat or a plinth that has grown a lip.
That is the single most common avoidable carpentry failure in Dubai properties, and the whole prevention is edge banding, sealing and keeping cut edges out of wet zones. It costs very little at the point of making and cannot be retrofitted.
Solid timber has a different failure. It takes up and gives off moisture unevenly if one face is sealed and the other is not, and it responds by bowing. That is why a solid door that has always closed sweetly can start catching after a summer in an empty villa, and why finishing both faces and all four edges of a door matters even though nobody sees the top edge.
Fixings are the third piece. Screws hold in plywood and in solid timber; in chipboard and MDF they hold once and hold badly the second time, which is why a hinge that has pulled out of a cabinet side cannot simply be re-screwed into the same hole. Proper repairs use inserts, dowels or a plug of solid material, and that is furniture repair Dubai rather than a screwdriver.
What we will not do is tell you a species on this page. Which timbers and boards are worth specifying depends on the piece, the budget and what is actually available, and a confident claim printed on a website is exactly the kind of thing that ends up being untrue.
Half of getting a job right is knowing which trade it belongs to, and the boundaries are not obvious to anybody outside the trades.
Partitions are the clearest. Almost every internal partition built here is gypsum board on a metal stud frame — it is faster, lighter, takes services inside it and is what the building expects. That is a drylining trade rather than carpentry, and a timber-framed partition is a specialist request rather than a default.
Glass and aluminium is a separate trade with separate equipment: shower enclosures, glass partitions, aluminium doors and windows, and anything that has to be toughened and drilled before it is toughened. A carpenter can make the opening; the unit itself is not carpentry.

Worktops in stone, quartz or solid surface are templated and fitted by the fabricator, usually after the base units are installed and levelled. Nobody cuts them on site. The carpenter's job is to give the fabricator a level, square run to template against.
Electrical and plumbing are licensed work, and inside a piece of joinery they are common: a socket in a wardrobe, lighting under a shelf, a waste and supply under a sink. The right sequence is to have the socket installation Dubai or the pipework done to the position agreed at the survey, then to install around it — because cutting into finished joinery afterwards is the version everybody regrets.
And the boundary that catches most people out: a wall that has to be opened, moved or made good is masonry and plastering, not carpentry. Furniture can be built around a wall or fixed to it; it cannot compensate for one that is in the wrong place.
Two quotations for the same wardrobe can differ enormously, and almost none of the difference is visible in the price line.
Ask what the carcass is and what happens at the exposed edges. Board, thickness, and whether cut edges are banded or sealed. This is the question that predicts whether a unit is intact in five years, and it is almost never answered unprompted.
Ask whose hardware it is, by name. Hinges and runners are the moving parts, and they are the difference between doors that still line up and doors that do not. A hinge that is adjustable in three planes and a hinge that is adjustable in one are both hinges. "Soft close" describes a feature, not a quality.
Ask who measures and when. If the answer is that the workshop will work from the architect's drawing, or that measuring happens before the tiling, the risk of the job sits with you. A survey after the room is finished is not a courtesy, it is the control on the biggest failure mode in the trade.
Ask what is excluded. Electrical, plumbing, stone worktops, glass, floor coverings, making good, and disposal of what is being removed. A quotation that mentions none of them is not more complete than one that lists them; it is less.
And a fifth, which people rarely think to ask: what happens if it does not fit. The honest answer from anybody who measured properly is that fillers and scribes absorb the variation, and that is what they are for. The answer to be wary of is one that treats the possibility as unthinkable.
We do not publish prices, lead times or warranty periods here, because they depend on the room, the material, the hardware and the access, and a number on a web page is not a quotation. What you should expect is that each of the four answers above is given in writing before anything is made.
There are jobs where the honest answer is not to book one, and saying so costs us work we would rather not have taken.
The first is flat-pack. If you have bought a unit that comes in a box with instructions, having it made is not the question and the job is assembly rather than joinery — furniture assembly Dubai does it faster and cheaper than we could justify.
The second is anything that is fundamentally about anchoring something to a wall. A television, a mirror, a heavy picture, a run of shelves. Those are decided by what is behind the plasterboard and which anchor suits it, and that is shelf installation Dubai and its neighbours rather than carpentry.

The fourth is furniture that is cheap and comprehensively broken. Chipboard that has crumbled at every fixing, a frame that racks in every direction, a veneer lifting across a whole surface — the repair is possible and it costs more than the piece. We will tell you that before starting rather than after.
The fifth is a design question in disguise. Sometimes the reason nothing fits is that the room is being asked to do too much, and the answer is fewer, larger pieces rather than more custom ones. That conversation costs nothing and occasionally ends with nobody building anything.
And the sixth is timing. Having joinery made before the tiling, the painting or the flooring is finished feels efficient and reliably produces something that has to be modified on site. If the room is not finished, the useful thing to book is the survey, not the work.
A few things from your side change the outcome more than anything we can do once we arrive.
Photographs of the whole wall, not the corner. A picture with a door or a person in it tells us the scale, the obstructions and the services, and it prevents the visit that exists only to look at something.
Clear the wall before the survey if you can. Measuring behind furniture produces approximate numbers, and approximate numbers are how a unit ends up nineteen millimetres too wide.
Say what goes inside. Suit lengths, shoe boxes, a vacuum cleaner, folded towels, a specific appliance. Internal layout is decided by contents, and changing it after the carcasses are made is the expensive kind of change.
Mention anything electrical or plumbed you want inside or behind the piece, at the survey rather than on installation day. It is easy to allow for and impossible to add neatly afterwards.
Tell us about access if it is not obvious — a lift with a small door, a service lift booking, a building that restricts working hours, a community with a permit process. Access problems stall more jobs in this city than technical ones.

In practice the distinction is site work versus workshop work. Fitting happens in your property and the skill is adjusting to walls, floors and frames that are not true. Workshop joinery is machined and finished somewhere clean and arrives complete. Most jobs are both — the carcasses come from a workshop, and the fillers, scribes and end panels are cut against your wall as it actually runs.
Because a recess is rarely the same width at the top, the middle and the bottom, and the smallest of those numbers is the one that matters. Floors fall, walls lean and corners are not ninety degrees. We would rather not, and if the room is not finished we would rather wait. Tiles and skirting have thickness, plaster is applied unevenly, and walls move during construction.
